Many first-time pilgrims reading about Tawaf also look for simple and guided ways to complete their full Umrah journey. That is why many travellers prefer going with organized Umrah packages offered by Makkah Travel, as they provide clear guidance and support throughout the rituals.

Before you begin to walk around the Kaaba, these are what you must do:
Before you begin, you must have wudhu(ritual cleanliness).
Important: If you lose your wudhu (e.g., need to go to the restroom) during your walk, you must stop. Renew your wudhu, then resume where you have left off.
Men in Ihram: You must keep your right shoulder uncovered throughout the Tawaf.
Women: Put on clothes that cover your body decently. You should be showing only your hands and face.
Once you enter the big mosque, decide in your heart why you are there (to do Tawaf).
The area is very crowded! Always take the minimum baggage and ensure that the money and passport are safe and hidden.
If you are worried about how to perform Tawaf correctly, DON'T BE!! Tawaf is easy! You circle the Kaaba seven times. Just be sincere, calm, and focused. Once you see the steps, the order is simple. Here we'll provide you with a clear guide to help you do it thoroughly.
About to start your Tawaf? Wait and think! Are you doing the Umrah? The bigger Hajj? Or just a voluntary Tawaf around the Kaaba? This is your intention. Now, if you are thinking what you should recite when you approach the Kaaba, you can recite the Talbiyah:
It's important to know that it is not a condition for Tawaf itself, but many pilgrims recite it before starting the ritual.

Now, reaching step two, you will be thinking, Where shall we begin performing Tawaf? Alright, the Tawaf starts at the corner where the Black Stone (Hajar e Aswad) is. When you reach this corner, perform Istilam.
What if it's crowded? Do not push or struggle. If you are far away, stand where you are, face the Black Stone corner, raise your hand and say the words. That counts!

Follow the people moving around the Kaaba in the same way you've seen in any random video. Now it's your turn to experience this blessed moment. Every full circle is counted as one. You need to complete exactly seven full circles.
Perform Ramal: This is only for the first Tawaf of your Umrah or Hajj. Now, if you are a man, for the first three circles around the Kaaba, try to walk quickly, like a fast march with short, energetic steps. This is called Ramal.
After you finish the third circle, go back to walking at a normal, easy speed for the last four circles. And if you are a woman, you should always walk at a normal pace for all seven trips. You do not need to walk quickly at any point.

There is no set or fixed dua for each round. You can recite:
Many pilgrims keep it simple by repeating dhikr, such as:
Optional: If you want to follow Tawaf Tasbeeh or perform nafl Tawaf, you may recite your chosen duas throughout the rounds.
Here is the Dua that you should recite when you walk between the Yemeni corner and the Black Stone,
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Transliteration: Rabbana ātinā fi’d-dunyā ḥasanah wa fi’l-ākhirati ḥasanah waqinā ‘adhāba an-nār
Translation: Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire.(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:201)
Pass the Hijr Isma'il (Hateem): The little half-circle wall (called the Hateem) is actually part of the Kaaba.
Just pretend the Hateem wall is part of the main Kaaba building, and always keep it on your left side!
At the seventh lap, you are back at the Black Stone corner. Stop!! And now it is high time to make dua (pray to God). Request whatever is suitable for yourself and your dear ones. Get off the walking trail quickly so others can continue. Your Tawaf is now done!
The Next Prayer
Many pilgrims lose count due to excitement or crowd movement. You can:
Completing seven full circles is required.
Pray Two Rak'ahs of Salah: Visit to the Station of Ibrahim (Maqam Ibrahim) was able, and have two units of supernumerary prayer (Nafl). If it is congested, praying in any other part of Masjid al-Haram is permitted.
Drink Zamzam Water: Available at dispensers throughout the mosque. When drinking it, it is advisable to say a Du'a of whatever you want.
Proceed to Sa'i: In undertaking Umrah, the walking between the hills of Safa and Marwah is the next thing to do; it is called Sa'i.
Umrah is easier because it only needs one full Tawaf. You do the Tawaf Umrah once (seven circuits). That's the central circle you must do for your Umrah to count.
Hajj is much longer and needs three main Tawafs, plus others:
Tawaf al-Qudum: The 'Hello' Circle. You do this when you first arrive in Makkah.
Tawaf al-Ifadah: The 'Main Event' Circle. This is the most important one after you finish the day at Arafat.
Tawaf al-Wada: The 'Goodbye' Circle. You do this just before you leave Makkah to go home.
Simple Rule: Every single time you do a Tawaf, whether it's for Umrah or Hajj, it always means you walk around the Ka'bah seven times.
Extra Circles (Optional):
In both Hajj and Umrah, you are allowed to do extra circles called Nafl Tawaf just because you want to. They are like a bonus prayer and can be done anytime.
The time required depends on the crowd, the weather and your pace.
During busy seasons such as Ramadan or Hajj, Tawaf may take longer.
Factors that affect duration:
Plan your Tawaf when you have enough time to walk without rushing.
If you want to perform your Tawaf without any worry, you need to follow some tips. We have mentioned some tips here that could be helpful for you.
Good preparation helps you stay calm and present during Tawaf.
Walking around the Ka'bah (Tawaf) is a really special way to pray and feel closer to God (Allah). Always know you have to complete seven rounds. This makes sure your Tawaf Umrah or Tawaf Hajj is counted correctly. Know how long Tawaf usually takes. This helps you stay focused and not rush. Doing an extra, optional Tawaf (Nafl Tawaf) is a great chance to get more rewards. And the most important thing!! Don't just walk! Stay calm, keep your mind on God, and let every single circle be a moment of peaceful prayer and deep reflection. This is how you get the very best from your pilgrimage.
Every part of the pilgrimage becomes easier when you are well-prepared and supported with authentic information. Makkah Travel continues to guide pilgrims with reliable resources and helpful assistance, so you can focus on your worship with peace of mind.

Yes. It does not matter what time you do Nafl Tawaf, as long as it is not during the hours when it is forbidden to pray. Many people enjoy having more time alone rather than being in large groups.
In case you have left a round unintentionally or are not sure that you have done it, you must use the more petite figure and fill in the rest of the circles. Tawaf should never be fewer than seven rounds.
Yes. Tawaf can be done individually. It is done separately by numerous pilgrims. Your Tawaf is good as long as you complete all seven rounds. All you have to do is not ignore the crowd of people and take a lane where you feel secure.
Yes. Children can perform Tawaf. In case they are in Ihram, this Tawaf is included in their Umrah or Hajj. A parent or guardian may take children who are not very young, and the Tawaf of the parent remains valid. The Tawaf of the child also includes the Tawaf, even if the child is in Ihram.
Yes, you can. The Tawaf is valid for you. It is not counted as Tawaf to the child unless they are also in Ihram in Umrah or Hajj.
Yes. You are allowed to move either inwards or outwards, provided that you follow the same direction without crossing the Kaaba.
